Elephant & Castle Pub and Restaurant: Overall good experience

castleA friend and I ate at the Elephant & Castle Pub and Restaurant in downtown Boston last night. Overall it was a good experience. The appetizers were delicious. We took advantage of the three appetizers for $16 special, and ordered bruschetta, chicken kabobs and pot stickers.

By far my favorite appetizer was pot stickers, or Chinese dumplings containing seasoned pork, vegetables and a sweet chili sauce. A bite of one of these, along with a swig of Smithwick’s Irish ale, seems to make everything right in this world. While my friend and I were waiting for our meals, we agreed to participate in a Scotch whiskey tasting sponsored by Dewar’s, a brand of Scotch whiskey.

We tried three brands of Scotch whiskey, including Dewar’s, without knowing which brands we were tasting. Then we had to say which one we liked best. It was a fun break in our dining experience. For dinner I had lamb curry, and my friend had steak and chips. My lamb curry was just OK. I found it barely had any chunks of lamb in it. My friend’s meal was excellent, however (I tried some).

The french fries were some of the best I’ve had, and the steak was tasty and tender. The meal came with baked beans as well. We had coffee for dessert, and then were on our way. Overall it was a nice experience, and our waitress was excellent.  For those who prefer a peaceful night out, you may want to avoid going to the restaurant on Tuesday evenings when they have trivia night.
